Teamwork

Human and Social Development

Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Goals

  • Improve student sense of well-being.

Students learn personal and social skills through daily routines and shared experiences, such as morning meetings and partner activities. For example, students practice taking turns, sharing materials, and using kind words while working together on a classroom project or game. Teachers guide students to recognize and talk about their feelings, celebrate what makes them unique, and learn how their actions affect others. Through stories, and classroom discussions, students begin to understand themselves as individuals and learn how to be caring, respectful members of their classroom and school community.
